I have been reading some...different cover letters in the past few weeks. I decided that I will offer some advice about cover letters. Just some things that I have noticed. This is just my personal advice so you can take it or leave it!
- Use a template--most versions of word offer several types of templates for resumes or cover letters, simply build off of it if you don't know where to begin
- Grab the attention of the reader--you only have a few moments to catch the readers attention. Most people will simply glance at your cover letter
- Keep it brief and to the point--This is not a research proposal--The HR team does not have all day to read your cover letter
- Do not include unnecessary information ie: I have never done a cover letter before so here goes nothing!
- If you are going to include short and long term goals--make them realistic & attainable
- Unless they ask, don't provide your picture!--This is not an audition--keep it professional
- If you've never done a Cover Letter before, don't blow it off and not provide one. Your application may be eliminated right away
- If you are unsure--look online for examples of cover letters or ask someone you know
- Read the job description before you even send in your cover letter! I see tons and tons of resumes and cover letters but they fail to even READ the job description--and it shows
- If your resume doesn't accurately depict why you are a good candidate, highlight that in your cover letter!
I'm not sure how I just noticed your header picture, but I LOVE it. So perfect for this blog :) Miss you!
